Part-time traffic lights installed on a roundabout in Preston, Lancs, which were part of a\u00a0\u00a33.5m scheme four years ago, have yet to be switched on.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The traffic lights, installed to help tackle congestion, have remained switched off as congestion\u00a0hasn\u2019t been serious enough to justify switching them on.<\/p>\n

On a personal note, while I do agree that part-time traffic lights are necessary on many roundabouts, I have found that the hours of operation are often not fully in sync with the volume of traffic at the time. \u00a0On numerous occasions, I have found myself sitting waiting to enter a roundabout at a red light, only to be waiting for what seems an eternity without any other traffic either around me, or for that matter, on the roundabout itself.<\/p>\n

Often, the presence of traffic light control actually creates congestion on what would, without the traffic light control, be quite a free-flowing roundabout.<\/p>\n
