A new study has found that one in six drivers are unable to identify a single one of the main components found under the bonnet of a standard car.\u00a0<\/span><\/h1>\n

The study, commissioned by LV Road Rescue, also revealed that even some of the most basic parts and components such as the oil dipstick, battery, and windscreen washer reservoir confused motorists whereby they were unable to identify them<\/p>\n

It was also found that two fifths of motorists state that they do not carry out any sort of regular, basic vehicle checks, which of course<\/p>\n

Two fifths of motorists confess that they don\u2019t do any checks on a regular basis, which can lead to car damage or a breakdown.<\/p>\n

LV Road Rescue warned that not maintaining a car properly, for example by running an engine without coolant, could lead to problems costing thousands of pounds to fix.<\/p>\n

In an effort to inform and enlighten drivers of the basic parts, components, and maintenance practices involved with owning and maintaining a vehicle, a new element to the official driving test was introduced way back in 2003 known as “Show Me, Tell Me”, however according to the findings of the study, drivers who took their test prior to this time actually performed better at identifying parts and components under the bonnet than new drivers who have been required to be familiar with these things as part of the modern driving test.<\/p>\n
