Some people just never learn… or should that be don’t care?!?
I was shocked and disappointed to read an article which highlighted new Government figures concerning driving licence endorsements.
In a nut-shell, these figures state that currently:
- 7,621 people are still on the road with 12 points or more.
- 8 motorists are still driving with 30 or more points on their licences.
- One unnamed woman driver is still on the roads with a record 42 penalty points: despite being more than 3 times over the threshold that would generally lead to a ban.
It is thought that a failure in communicate between the courts and the DVLA is at fault for these drivers still being on the road – particularly in instances whereby drivers clocked up repeat points over a short time. Under normal circumstances, drivers would be banned if they accumulate 12 points on their licence over a three-year period: this is known as the ‘totting-up’ system.
What disappoints me most about all of this is that it is obvious to me that some drivers never seem to learn from their actions, which for me, is a blatant display of disregard for the safety of both themselves and other road users.
This is a dangerous combination…
