A leading pollution expert has warned that the popularity of diesel cars could see an increase in smog over Britain.
Last year, diesel powered cars accounted for 49.8% of all cars sold, this is compared with petrol’s at 48.8%. Figures show that just 14% of new cars were powered by diesel back in 2002. Diesel particulate filters (DPFs) – a device which was designed to remove diesel particulate matter or soot from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine – have been a legal requirement on all new diesel cars sold in the UK since 2009.
Traffic emissions are already big, and are a growing problem for the environment in the UK.
