Reflection…
What an absolutely extraordinary turn around in fortunes for my beloved club!!
Another three absolutely priceless points were gained in our inspired battle against the threat of relegation, which also saw us craft our first league win at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ since 1968 in what was a wonderful and much desired and thoroughly deserved victory.
Can you believe that only two-and-a-half / three weeks ago we were pretty much all but relegated, and now, having against all odds, won ten points from a possible twelve, we find ourselves with our destiny in our own hands.
We asked for a miracle, and boy does it seem that we are being bestowed with that miracle!
Gus Poyet’s team selection was as expected, with the very same starting eleven selected for duty as in the previous three successive games.
The game started off quite flat and slow paced. A lovely half-volley by Seb Larsson from a Connor Wickham cross was all we ultimately needed in terms of goals, as Gus once again had the lads organised and drilled for the game brilliantly, however we also hit both the bar and post with efforts from Borini and Giaccherini respectively.
Throughout the game, so much was my optimism, and so strong was my will for us to win, I genuinely had to remind myself to breathe at times!

So here we are. Two of the three relegation spots are now filled by Cardiff and Fulham. As it stands, we could be safe by 17.45 on Sunday afternoon should Norwich lose to Chelsea due to our superior goal difference to that of Norwich; this will see Norwich also relegated.
A hugely proud few weeks for Wearside, topped off by another wonderful day today; Let’s just finish the job in style now regardless of the outcome of the Chelsea v Norwich game.
One more win from our final two fixtures will seal it beyond doubt.
My Man Of The Match: An impressive, determined performance all round, but on this occasion I would give the accolade to Lee Cattermole. I have been fairly critical of him on a number of occasions this season, however today – and throughout our recent turn around in fortunes – we have seen the very best of what he gives the Sunderland cause.
Whether Lee has a good game or an indifferent one, you know for certain that there will be absolutely no lack of effort on his part.
Next up – WBA at the SOL.
