The initiative is designed to help women protect themselves from aggressive drivers and potential dangers should their car break down.
The scheme, named “Women in Gear”, and is run by serving police officer and self-protection expert Andy Williams, consists of a workshop based course to teach basic maintenance and useful ‘get-you-home’ tips, which are primarily aimed at helping women deal with minor vehicle issues as opposed to having to wait alone at the roadside for help.
In addition to gaining knowledge concerning basic mechanical maintenance, the course also includes a lesson in how to avoid road rage situations, defensive driving to make drivers safer, and how to ward off a possible road rage attacker.
The course is currently only being run by Hendy Kia in Eastleigh, Hampshire, however the plan is to expand the scheme country wide.
