Car maintenance: How confident are you?
I read an article today stating that modern day drivers are stumped by simple car maintenance. As cars become more and more computerised even changing something as simple as a headlight bulb has, in many cases, become a fairly lengthy and expensive job, and in some cases are a job for the vehicle manufacturer main dealer.
In a nutshell: Drivers can’t do maintenance to their own vehicle as they used to do.
This being said, it appears that, according to the results of a poll of AA members, many motorists even put off simple tasks such as changing wiper blades, while more than one in four drivers do not carry out the most basic checks such as oil, water and tyres.
Part of the DSA driving test consists of a element known as “Show Me, Tell Me“. Candidates are asked two safety questions whereby they are required to demonstrate one safety check and explain another. Whilst this I feel isn’t a bad thing, for me it doesn’t go nearly far enough.
Stay safe folks!
