Ah, hazard warning lights; granted, not the most exciting subject in the world, but an important & relevant one nonetheless!
The reason I have decided to breach the subject is because I see cars displaying incorrect use of their hazard warning lights on a fairly regular basis, so I just thought I’d try to spread the word!
Hazard warning lights are primarily used to warn other road users of your presence in circumstances whereby your vehicle is, or is in the process of, causing an obstruction because of vehicle failure. In addition to this, the hazard warning lights should be used to warn other road users when you have to slow down quickly on a motorway or unrestricted dual carriageway because of a hazard ahead.
These are the general rules, however I forever see vehicles either stopped or parked in restricted / prohibited areas such as on double yellow lines, or the zig-zag marked area of a pedestrian crossing.
I have also seen vehicles parked in disabled parking bays with the hazard warning lights left blinking away . . .
Using the hazard warning lights in such illegal situations is in no way an excuse, therefore should never be done . . even if someone is only popping to the cash point . . !
