Criminals Benefit From Better Insurance – But Not Speeding Motorists.

By | 15/03/2014

A “get-out” clause has been negotiated by the insurance industry which will see serious criminals with the means to wipe the slate clean in within months – but, it seems, drivers can’t…

That’s right good people – the clause to new legislation will keep minor motoring offences on your record for five years, which of course pushes up the cost of insurance cover, while serious criminals can wipe the slate clean in months.

When the law changed on Monday, it allowed the slate to be wiped clean in record time for many criminal offences.  This means that, essentially, many criminal records will no longer be required to be disclosed by law under amendments to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.

It seems that the changes have been designed to allow offenders to put the past behind them;  effectively saying that mistakes made earlier should no longer ruin someone’s life in the long term.

Unfortunately and disappointingly, motorists do not have the same principle extended to them, which means that motoring convictions will stay on your licence and need to be disclosed for the same time periods as they were prior to the legislation change.
