Personally I hope that we in the UK go Dutch on this one!
That’s right – Civil Engineers in the Netherlands have developed a paint for use on the highways which contains a “photo-luminising” powder that charges up in the daytime, and in turn slowly releases a green glow at night.
How cool is that!
The idea is a step towards doing away with the need for street lights, and there is already a 500m stretch of highway which has had the paint applied.
If tests are successful, we too could see such markings on the UK’s highways in time. There has already been talk of introducing Dutch-style roundabouts to the UK road network over recent months.
