The headline caught my attention, and it certainly has relevance to taking the driving test.
Of course, nobody wants to fail, but what if you did?
An interesting article on the BBC website asks a very interesting question: Is there any actual value in failing?!
Whilst we in the driver training profession prefer to call it ‘being unsuccessful’, the contributor quite rightly states that, naturally, we are all scared of failing and having to admit errors or mistakes to our peers. Furthermore, this fear generally heightens as we grow towards adulthood.
As I have said to my student drivers over the years should they have been unsuccessful with an attempt at the driving test, the best way to deal with it is to accept the situation and not pretend that it did not happen. By dealing with it in this way it provides an absolutely vital opportunity to identify what and why it went wrong on the big day.
Once you’ve identified these, you can then take action to make a difference!
Result!
Essentially the disappointment of ‘failure’ must be used as a driving force towards redemption and success.
As the article alludes to, the ‘experience’ of being unsuccessful can be very character building.
