Match date: Tuesday 07 January 2014.
Final Score: Sunderland 2 – 1 Manchester United
Reflection time…
As I write this, it is the day after the evening before, and oh, what a wonderful night of Football for everyone associated with the greatest club in the land, Sunderland AFC!!
Are my eyes playing tricks on me, or we really only (potentially!) 90 minutes away from a cup final at the mighty Wembley Stadium?! With the return leg to play at Old Trafford on Jan 22, the tie is balanced nicely in our favour. I can’t wait for the fixture to come around but it seems an eternity away at the moment.
Simply put: We fully deserved the victory on the night.
Each player to a man put in a performance, and again, we looked a million miles away from a club stuck at the foot of the table. I’ve said it before, and I will say it again: We are far better than our league position suggests.
An excellent performance all round and I was extremely proud of the lads.
I only hope that we can push on up the league now. Would it really be such a bad season if we end up finishing 17th in the league with the Capitol One Cup in the trophy cabinet?!
I would happily accept that little scenario now thank you very much!
Anyway, in relation to the cup I would like to take a cue from BonJovi…. Whooah, we’re half way there!!
I love days like that!
My Man Of The Match: The whole team performed admirably, however Ki and Borini stood out, and Bardsley was immense. But for me, the plaudit goes to the new boy Alonso – what a debut young man!
