A revolutionary new ‘smart’ seatbelt system named HARKEN is being developed by the Biomechanics Institute in Valencia, Spain.
The technology involved includes a sensor which wakes you up if you are in danger of falling asleep at the wheel, along with a device to measure the driver’s heart rate and breathing.
Should the device find that the heart rate drops too much, a warning alarm sounds.
If and when the technology finds its way into production vehicles, it could be a potentially life-saving development which could help reduce KSI (Killed or Seriously Injured) figures.
As anyone who regularly reads my posts will know, I am not a huge fan of the unnecessary use of vehicle technology in general, however I feel that on this occasion such a development would be welcomed.
