The DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) has announced that new, modern CGI (Computer-Generated Imagery) clips will be introduced into the hazard perception part of the driving theory test.
The clips, to be introduced in the early part of 2015, will replace the current selection of clips which were captured using actual in-car camera video footage. The new CGI clips will be a marked improvement both in terms of visual quality, and also in terms of the nature of the hazards which can be created.
It is worth noting that while the moving images being introduced are different to those currently used, the manner in which the hazard perception part of the theory test works will not change. The clips will still feature everyday road scenes, which will contain at least on ‘developing hazard’ (a developing hazard being one in which may require you having to take some sort of action, such as changing speed or direction), alongside one of the clips containing 2 developing hazards.
The pass mark of 44 out of 75 (for car and motorcycle tests) will also remain unchanged.
Having previously viewed some very early examples of the CGI clips, I must say that I was hugely unimpressed, however, having now viewed an example of the finished article, I must now concede that they do indeed look impressive.
