Britain’s driving test candidates are facing delays and cancellations of their driving tests due to examiners leaving their posts.
In April of this year, the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) and the Vehicle and Operators Service Agency (VOSA) merged to form the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), and official figures show that since that time a not inconsiderable 37 staff have quit – this in in excess of one a week.
The resignations and examiner shortages at the newly formed DVSA have resulted in what has been described as a ‘ticking time-bomb’ as the waiting time for driving tests get ever longer. The resignations are thought, in some circles, to be a result of pay and job cuts as well as low morale caused by the merger.
Furthermore, it appears that the DVSA is failing to meet its own six week driving test waiting time – this has risen to 6.2 weeks in the past 12 months.
