A study has reported that the UK’s rural and country roads are among the most dangerous, with such roads accounting for a huge 60% of all road deaths.
The study, which was conducted by road safety campaign organisation THINK!, also found that a further 25% of drivers have been a witness to a near miss incident on the country road.
In addition to the findings above, the study also found that, unsurprisingly, a not inconsiderable 40% of drivers have come across an unexpected hazard such as rider on horseback.
Sadly, I would imagine that a large number of such incidents would involve some sort of speed related factor, for example, a driver taking a corner or bend too quickly when they are unable to sufficiently see round it, which would likely result in the driver losing control of the vehicle.
