A study by LV has found that the number of drivers being fined for not wearing a seatbelt has risen by a not inconsiderable 17% across England and Wales in the past five years.
The shocking statistics also found that there have been a huge 80,000 fines issued for failing to wear a seatbelt while driving in 2014 so far.
In addition to the findings above, the study also found that:
• 6% of drivers refuse to wear a seatbelt.
• 9% do not use the seatbelt when they are a front seat passenger.
• 24% said they don’t bother to wear a seatbelt when sit in the back of a car.
Such findings are a huge concern as not wearing a seatbelt is known to be one of the ‘fatal four’ driving offences, along with using a mobile phone while driving, inappropriate speed, and driving under the influence of drink or drugs.
