When I read the article my first reaction was to simply shake my head in utter disbelief and disappointment.
I’ve mentioned on numerous occasions over the years about the importance of a positive attitude to driving. My colleagues and I work extremely hard through our work to develop, and even in many cases change, attitudes to driving whilst developing the understanding and responsibility that goes along with it.
You can imagine my disbelief and disappointment to read about a driver, spotted by a police helicopter, speeding down a motorway travelling at an average speed of between 144mph and 165mph. It’s believed that he could have been travelling even faster at one point.
Pure madness. . .
On appearing at court, magistrates banned the guy from driving for three years and also ordered him to take a further driving test before he is allowed back on the road.
He was also ordered to pay fines and costs totalling only £515 – which in the bigger picture, not a huge amount of money to make him think twice about committing such an offence again future.
Furthermore, it appears that in a final act of defiance, as the guy was about to step down from the dock he said: ‘I’m still going to drive – catch me if you can.’
As simply shocking attitude and absolutely blatant disregard for the law. . .
Anyway, as the great ‘Forrest Gump‘ famously said, “And that’s all I have to say about that. . .”
