Driving Instructors Sunderland: CCTV Spy Car Restriction Promised

By | 17/06/2014

The road safety minister has promised that in order to prevent their widespread abuse, the use of CCTV ‘spy cars’ will be severely restricted in the future, as there is now a ‘deep rooted public perception’ that local authorities view parking enforcement as a ‘cash cow to boost their coffers’.

In recent times, in addition to traditional parking wardens, it seems that many councils are also using CCTV spy cars, however in the future CCTV would be limited to specific areas such as in bus lanes and schools.

Figures show that between 1998 and 2011, profits from parking penalties more than doubled, with a further rise expected in the current calendar year.
