Driving Lessons Sunderland: “Never Teach Your Wife To Drive” Show Commissioned.

By | 26/04/2014

Question: Do such programmes really send out the correct message to the masses?!

For me… ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Exactly the opposite to be honest.

Having recently been made aware of, in my opinion, silly proposals by TV producers to create a show which will see so-called celebrities teaching members of the public to drive, I have now read an uncomfortable article stating that Channel 5 is making a new series called ‘Never Teach Your Wife To Drive’…

As far as I am aware, the former programme has yet to be officially commissioned – and hopefully this status will remain so – however the latter, it seems, has already got the go-ahead.

The concerning thing for me is that such programmes send out totally the wrong (potentially dangerous) message to the general public, while essentially belittling and making a mockery of the driver training profession in general.

To quote a line from the show’s director of programming, “These feisty couples will have explosive dynamics guaranteed to start fireworks”…

Really?!

Having the responsibility of being behind the wheel is dangerous enough without “explosive dynamics” on display between the couples featured.

Again, all these shows achieve – in the name of entertainment evidently – is to dilute the seriousness of learning to drive, while also making light of bad or incorrect attitudes behind the wheel.

These factors are a worrying recipe for disaster in my humble opinion.
