The DIA (Driving Instructors Association) in partnership with Goodyear, have created the ‘Goodyear Driving Academy Parent Pack’ which is, as it suggests, aimed at parents to help teach their children road safety before they even think about getting behind the wheel.
Driver training professionals in general believe that such learning should begin at an early age, with parents taking a direct, hands-on role in their own children’s education. Unfortunately, at the moment it seems that far too much emphasis is placed upon young drivers simply ‘getting through’ their driving test, which of course goes against the preferred long term, graduated learning approach.
To reinforce the need for this preferred approach further, a study in Sweden found a significant reduction (15%*) in young driver accidents where they had been taught from a younger age.
Certainly food for thought I am sure you will agree…
