How To Know When To Stop Driving.

By | 15/10/2013

Most of my student drivers tend to be in the 17 to 24 age group and are, of course, keen & eager and at the very beginning of their driving career.

However, the time will come for all of us to figure out for ourselves when the appropriate time is to hang up the car-keys.

This poses the question: When is the right time to stop driving?

Naturally, as we grow older, it’s perfectly normal for our driving habits and skills to change. To some extent, as we age we will all likely experience a deterioration in health and sight, along with a deterioration in our reaction times behind the wheel.  It can be tough to make the decision to stop driving altogether as it can feel like independence, mobility and freedom have been taken away.

Ultimately, the important thing is to recognise any changes in driving style and ability as you get older.

A new detailed on-line resource aimed at guiding older motorists – as well as their concerned family members – on how, and when to give up their driving licence has been launched by driving-based road safety association GEM Motoring Assist.  The resource highlights the dangers faced by drivers as they get older, along with providing advice on how to identify the risk.
