An Australian company by the name of ‘Seeing Machines’, are currently developing a system which can digitally track your eye movement and facial expressions in order to see when you are in danger of dozing off behind the wheel.
The technology is being developed to initially monitor driver distractions, along with technology to monitor driver fatigue set for a later date.
The CEO of the company, Ken Kroeger, believes that the technology, known as ‘Automated Fatigue Monitoring System’ (AFMS), could very well be seen on a production car by as early as 2017.
Personally, whilst I am all for developments being made in vehicle technology in the interests of safety, I am also generally skeptical about much of it. The technology mentioned here could be a great addition to vehicle safety systems in the coming years, however I am not a huge believer in technology which takes away much of the human element.
