Simply put, they generally present you with a healthy increase in your yearly premiums..!
The extent of the increase in premium pretty much depends on the level of the motoring offence.
An article I found on MSN.com provides an interesting look at how various motoring infractions, such as speeding and driving whilst on a mobile phone (a major pet hate of mine BTW!), will likely affect the yearly insurance premiums of a given driver.
