According to a study, ONE IN SEVEN young drivers are putting themselves and other road users in danger due to their poor vision and other eyesight related problems.
The study, conducted on behalf of thinkaboutyoureyes.co.uk found that the age group of 18-24 were the most likely to have problems driving because of poor vision – surprisingly more likely than older drivers.
These worrying figures emerged following a poll amongst drivers between the ages of 18 and 60 to mark the launch of a new winter driving campaign ahead of Road Safety Week next week which begins on the 18th of November.
In my experience, the problem tends to be that drivers do not really notice a deterioration in their eyesight over the course of time. If you have concerns about your vision, or have not had your eyes tested within the last two years, I would strongly advise that you make an appointment with an Optician in order to have your sight tested: doing so could essentially save your, or another road users life…
Please note that you may need to have more frequent eyesight tests if you, for example, are Diabetic, are over 70, or have a family history of eye problems. (Please note that the list of examples given are just that – examples, and are far from being comprehensive)
