According to statistics published by the Government, it seems that the White van drivers’ long held reputation for recklessness on the roads may be unjustified, as official figures show that they are actually half as likely to be involved in accidents as normal cars.
That’s right folks, the statistics show that just one in every 261 vans was involved in an accident while on Britain’s roads in 2012, in comparison to one in 146 cars.
Buses and coaches were statistically the most likely vehicles to have an accident, with one in 26 involved in an incident during the same 12 month period.
The figure for HGVs during this period was one in 68.
To touch upon the White van man again, a survey carried out by the RAC found that many motorists (57%) believe that the van drivers’ reputation for anti-social behaviour on the roads was actually deserved, with 54 per cent having the opinion that they take less care on the roads than other drivers.
