That’s right good people – even though this comes as no real surprise.
A survey of carried out over 4,300 miles of road across the UK has found that half the white line markings on major roads need replacing because of ‘shameful’ neglect, and worryingly, this factor is putting lives at risk.
Given the vital importance which the humble white line markings play in road safety, it is thought that repainting (or painting the markings for the first time) on major A roads could cut road deaths by up to a third.
In light of these findings, George Lee, the national director for the ‘Road Safety Markings Association’ who conducted the survey, actually went as far as to call the situation ‘shameful’.
I personally would echo Mr Lee’s sentiments on the subject. Given the amount of time I spend on the roads, it seems that every time I turn the corner there is yet another faded, poorly market section of road to figure out.
