Never under-estimate the importance good health plays whilst driving.
The statement may seems obvious to many, however even relatively mild conditions such as the common cold can have a dramatic effect on concentration.
Driving requires our full concentration at all times. A bad clod or flu it’s thought could drop concentration levels by as much as 50% – This is the equivalent of consuming more than four double whiskies.
Other conditions or ailments such as plunging blood sugar levels, eye conditions, and even many over-the-counter remedies can cause a ‘hangover effect’ which in turn dramatically reduces concentration and reaction time.
Take hay fever for example. As well as the effects many over-the-counter remedies have on concentration and reaction time, should a driver suddenly find themselves sneezing uncontrollably, this can make driving a hazard as, when we sneeze, we tend to close our eyes.
Should you be travelling at the national speed-limit, a driver can travel up to a worrying 50ft with their eyes closed during the sneeze.
