According to a report entitled ‘Connected Cars: Consumer & Commercial Telematics and Infotainment 2014-2018’, the use of in-vehicle apps is expected to reach 269m by 2018 – this is more than a five-fold increase based upon last year’s figures.
It is thought that the growth in numbers will be fuelled by systems such as Apple’s CarPlay, which will be used to promote them to the mainstream.
