A survey conducted by the RAC Foundation has found that more than two-thirds of respondents would support restrictions on newly qualified young drivers.
The call for some sort of “graduated licencing” to be in place for drivers in the first year of passing their driving test, and under the age of 24, was supported by a majority 68 per cent of the 2,000 adults polled.
The poll comes in the aftermath of the recent decision by the Government to put their radical proposed changes to the driving test and the subsequent restrictions on hold.
The original changes were proposed in an attempt to cut road deaths among young drivers, however they were shelved in May 2014 when the Government appeared to have a change of heart on potentially restricting the lives of young people in such a way.
While I am sure that the vast majority of people agree that changes to the current process absolutely need to be made – and sooner rather than later – such potentially radical changes need to be right, while not being overly or unnecessarily restrictive.
